Getting Started

• What is Instics?

  Instics is the world's easiest spreadsheet. Instics was designed from the ground up for powerful analysis that's easy to use.

• How does Instics work?

  Instics uses an advanced automation algorithm that automatically analyzes spreadsheets in seconds. Our technology takes care of complex and repetitive tasks like making graphs, formulas, and pivot tables. That means that you get to spend more time on important work and less time on tedious spreadsheet tasks.

• Where can I see sample spreadsheets?

  We have created several sample spreadsheets to show how Instics works. If you're not sure where to start, we recommend checking out the Expense Tracker.

• How can I get help?

Creating

• How can I create a new Instics spreadsheet?
  1. Click New on the left.
     
  2. Click Sheet in the drop-down menu.
     
• How can I upload a spreadsheet from my computer?
  1. Click the Upload button on the left.
     
  2. Choose a spreadsheet file to upload.
• Can I upload spreadsheets using drag-and-drop?

  Yes! Instics supports drag-and-drop uploads. Simply drag a file from your computer and drop it into an Instics folder to upload it.

• What types of spreadsheets can be uploaded?

  Instics supports many different types of spreadsheets for upload, including:

  • Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx)
  • OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods)
  • Comma separated values (.csv)

  You can also copy and paste your existing spreadsheets into Instics.

Editing

• How can I copy and paste?

  Instics supports copy and paste using standard keyboard shortcuts. You can also copy and paste to and from other spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel.

  • To copy, press Ctrl+C (⌘+C on Mac).
  • To paste, press Ctrl+V (⌘+V on Mac).
• How can I undo my last change?

  Instics supports undo using standard keyboard shortcuts. You can also undo from the history tab.

  • To undo, press Ctrl+Z (⌘+Z on Mac).
• How can I insert rows (or columns)?
  1. Click the row header on the left (or column header at the top).
     
  2. Click Insert at the top.
     
  3. An empty row (or column) will be inserted.
     
• How can I delete rows (or columns)?
  1. Click the row header on the left (or column header at the top).
     
  2. Click Delete at the top.
     
  3. The row (or column) will be deleted.
     
• How can I freeze columns?

  Instics lets you freeze the first column, column A, so it will always stay visible as you scroll through your data.

  1. Click the column header at the top.
     
  2. Click Freeze at the top.
     
  3. The column will be frozen.
     

Printing

• How can I print a spreadsheet?
  1. Click the Share button on the right.
     
  2. Click PDF document (.pdf) under Print.
     

Datatypes

• What are datatypes?

  The datatype setting controls the types of graphs and statistics that Instics creates. For example, when the Date datatype is used, Instics will create date-based graphs like monthly totals and averages.

  Usually Instics can automatically detect the right datatype to use. However, the datatype can also be customized in the sheet settings.

  If you are not sure which datatype to use, please contact us and we'd be happy to help.

• What is the ID datatype?

  The ID datatype is used for numbers that should be treated as names rather than used for calculations. For example:

  • ID number
  • Invoice number
  • SKU
  • ZIP code
  • Tracking number
• What is a gauge datatype?

  A gauge datatype is used for numbers that cannot be added together. For example:

  • Account balance
  • Temperature
  • Speed
  • Averages
• How can I change datatypes?

  Every column in an Instics spreadsheet has a datatype setting that can be changed.

  1. Click the Settings button on the right.
     
  2. Click the drop-down menu next to the column name under Datatypes.
     

Graphs

• How can I change the title of a graph?
  1. Click the graph on the right.
     
  2. Click the title at the top.
     

Downloading

• How can I download a spreadsheet to my computer?
  1. Click the Share button on the right.
     
  2. Click CSV file (.csv) under Download.
     
• What limitations do downloaded spreadsheets have?

  Spreadsheets downloaded from Instics will not include advanced Instics features like graphs, statistics, and history. The downloaded files will contain only the data table and will not be updated automatically.

  For the best sharing experience, we recommend sharing the link to the online spreadsheet.

• How can I download a graph to my computer?
  1. Click the graph on the right.
     
  2. Click the Sharing button at the top.
     
  3. Click PNG image (.png) under Download.
     
• What limitations do downloaded graphs have?

  Graphs downloaded from Instics will not include advanced Instics features like automatic high-quality scaling and interactive tooltips. The downloaded files will contain only a static image and will not be updated automatically.

  For the best sharing experience, we recommend sharing the link to the online graph or embedding the graph on your web site.

Formulas

• How can I use Instics formulas?

  Instics formulas let you perform calculations with your data. For example, you can add columns together to get a total or divide columns to get a ratio.

  1. Click the column menu button of an empty column.
     
  2. Click Formula in the drop-down menu.
     
• What are examples of Instics formulas?
  • To add columns together, enter B+C+D.
  • To divide columns, enter B/C.
  • To multiply columns, enter B*C.
  • You can use parentheses like (B+C)/2.

Mobile Devices

• Can I use Instics on my mobile device (smartphone, tablet)?

  Yes! Instics is optimized for mobile devices. To use Instics on your mobile device, simply go to instics.com and log in.

Account

• How can I change my e-mail address?
  1. Click your name at the top right.
     
  2. Click Settings in the drop-down menu.
     
  3. Click change next to Email.
     
• How can I change my password?
  1. Click your name at the top right.
     
  2. Click Settings in the drop-down menu.
     
  3. Click change next to Password.
     

Billing

• When does my free trial end?

  Your free trial ends 30 days after you signed up for Instics. To see the trial end date:

  1. Click your name at the top right.
     
  2. Find the trial end date in the drop-down menu.
     
• How can I change my credit card information?
  1. Click your name at the top right.
     
  2. Click Settings in the drop-down menu.
     
  3. Click change next to Payment method.
     
• How can I cancel my subscription?
  1. Click your name at the top right.
     
  2. Click Settings in the drop-down menu.
     
  3. Click change next to Subscription status.
     
• What happens after I cancel my subscription?

  After canceling, you can continue using Instics until the end of your monthly subscription. After your subscription ends, you will no longer be able to access your Instics account.
